As a destination wedding photographer working between Puerto Rico, Maryland, DC, and Baltimore, I get to witness love stories that unfold in incredible ways. Carmen and Cristian's wedding at Zafra del Caribe in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, was one of those days that simply felt unforgettable. From heartfelt moments to rain-soaked roads and stunning views, this wedding had it all. Here's how the day unfolded through my lens.
Getting Ready in Juncos: A Scenic View of El Yunque and a Beautiful Reunion
Before heading to the venue, we made a quick stop at Zafra del Caribe to pick up Carmen’s bouquet — it was right on our route. Communication with the wedding planner, José Luis from Expresión Creativa, was key. We’ve worked together on several weddings, including two at this same venue. He’s someone I fully trust to have everything under control. We’ve even had the chance to be featured together in local press and wedding publications, so I knew everything was going to run smoothly.
The getting ready happened at an elegant, spacious home in Juncos, with a breathtaking view of El Yunque National Forest. Both Carmen and Cristian were getting ready there, though in separate areas. I started with Carmen, who was calmly sitting with a book in her hands when I arrived such a serene vibe.
It was extra special because we actually knew each other from childhood. Seeing her and her family again after all these years added a personal layer to the day. Everything was already beautifully arranged and ready, so I dove into capturing the essential bridal details: the dress, bouquet, invitation, and accessories the foundation of every wedding story.
Carmen was a natural in front of the camera, radiant with joy and excitement. That kind of energy is gold for me as a photographer it makes the whole process flow effortlessly. Meanwhile, Cristian was upstairs with his best friend and best man, feeling the nerves, pacing around and getting ready.
Just as we were wrapping up Carmen’s prep, her soon to be mother-in-law came downstairs with a heartfelt gift from Carmen a sweet surprise for Cristian that brought a huge smile to his face. Those personal touches are what make wedding stories unforgettable.
Ceremony at Zafra del Caribe: Rain, Romance, and Live Guitar
Rain and traffic followed us to the venue, but thankfully, my assistant was there to help. While she parked the car, I jumped out to photograph the ceremony setup, wedding cake, and all the decor details. These are the moments where having an assistant makes a huge difference — time is everything on a wedding day.
The ceremony itself was deeply emotional. The soft sounds of a live guitarist created a peaceful, romantic backdrop. The look on Carmen and Cristian’s faces as they locked eyes at the altar said it all. The lighting was perfectly set, and everything was in place to capture the magic of the moment.
Their vows felt authentic and heartfelt not just a formality, but a true reflection of their journey together. As a wedding photographer in Puerto Rico & Maryland, moments like these remind me why I love documenting love stories in this part of the world.
Reception: Warm Tones, Candlelight, and an Unforgettable Celebration
The reception decor featured warm tones, roses in blush and yellow, and candlelit centerpieces that set a romantic, welcoming mood. Every detail reflected the couple’s vision and added a touch of elegance to the night.
And then came a great surprise the DJ was none other than Juan Raúl, or as I knew him from school, DJ Mach. It was awesome to reconnect, and as expected, he kept the energy high and the dance floor packed. There were emotional toasts, delicious food, laughter, the bouquet toss, the garter moment the full celebration.
When Photography Becomes Legacy
Working in Puerto Rico and the DMV area (Maryland, DC, Virginia), I truly believe that photography is more than just beautiful images. It's about preserving stories, emotions, and connections.
Carmen and Cristian’s wedding day reminded me of the power of storytelling through imagery, especially when you’ve shared a past with the people you’re photographing. Thank you both for allowing me to be part of this amazing day.
And if you're currently planning a destination wedding in Puerto Rico or looking for a wedding photographer in Baltimore, Maryland, or DC, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s create something unforgettable together.
